Meghan O'Neil

In 2016, Meghan O’Neil embarked on her journey with Mills & Mills LLP, climbing the ranks to become a partner by 2022. Her academic journey, marked by distinction, began with a broadcast journalism certificate from Fanshawe College, followed by an honours degree in arts from the University of Windsor, and culminating in a law degree from the University of Ottawa.

During her law studies, Meghan distinguished herself not just academically but also in leadership and teaching roles, notably assisting in courses on Alternative Dispute Resolution and Legal Writing. Her dedication was further recognized through a law fellowship in 2013, enabling her to gain valuable experience in estate law back in Windsor, her home city. This period set the foundation for her specialization, further honed during her articling in Oakville, where she delved deep into estate litigation, planning, and administration.

With a Trust and Estate Practitioner designation from STEP Canada under her belt, Meghan is not just a legal expert but also a trusted member of the Estate Planning Council of Toronto. Her expertise sees her frequently enlightening others on estate planning and administration, offering insights to financial bodies, community organizations, and through professional development initiatives, including those organized by the Ontario Bar Association and Osgoode’s Estate Planning program.

Since being called to the Ontario Bar in 2015, Meghan has dedicated herself to estate law, focusing on planning and administration. She’s particularly adept at navigating the intricacies of planning for dependents with disabilities and managing cross-border assets. Her approach is always to find solutions that are both effective and economical, aiming to demystify the complex world of estate law for her clients.

Meghan's affiliations are extensive, including membership in the Estate Planning Council of Canada, the Toronto Estate Planning Council, and the Women’s Law Association of Ontario, showcasing her active participation in both the legal and local communities. Her journey reflects a commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and the profound impact of her work on individuals and families navigating the complexities of estate planning and administration.
