Philip Hooker

In 1999, Philip embarked on a pioneering role at Mills & Mills LLP, stepping in as the inaugural full-time LegalShield Associate right when LegalShield – Ontario was launched on June 20 of that year. This venture marked a significant chapter in his legal journey, aligning him with LegalShield (formerly known as PrePaidLegal) and setting a precedent for the firm's engagement with the program.

With a foundation in English, thanks to his Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University at the University of Toronto, and a legal framework from his LL.B. earned at Osgoode Hall Law School in 1970, Philip's legal acumen was well-established early on. His career, which took flight after being called to the Bar of Ontario in 1972, began with a focus on defending insured motorists in motor vehicle accident civil litigation in Windsor, Ontario. His trajectory then shifted to a significant tenure as a solicitor for the Corporation of the City of Hamilton from 1974 to 1999, which included a stint as Acting City Solicitor for nine months.

Philip's role at Mills & Mills LLP is distinguished by its diversity. He relishes the opportunity to tackle a broad spectrum of legal challenges across a vast array of individual matters for LegalShield members. His daily work encompasses providing sage advice on commonplace legal issues that touch on insurance claims, contracts, housing, financial, business, employment, and litigation matters. This role allows him to offer practical, legal solutions to everyday problems, making legal services more accessible to those who might find them prohibitively expensive, geographically unreachable, or dauntingly complex.

Through his efforts, alongside his colleagues dedicated to LegalShield, Philip contributes to democratizing legal advice. This ensures that it is not only affordable but also delivered in a manner that is both convenient and swift, bridging the gap between the public and the often intricate legal system.

Philip's professional affiliations with The Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, the Halton County Law Association, and the City of Hamilton Quarter Century Club underscore his deep-rooted connection to the legal community and his commitment to excellence in his field.
