Lauren Crosby

Lauren is a key associate within the Not-for-Profit & Charities Group at Torkin Manes. Her legal practice is dedicated to serving a variety of organizations, from both public and private foundations to charitable entities, social ventures, city governments, and non-profit organizations. Lauren's expertise encompasses guiding clients through formation, by-law drafting and interpretation, securing and retaining charitable status, contract drafting and negotiation, and organizational dissolution processes.

Her involvement extends to supporting clients through tax examinations, counseling charitable organizations on investment guidelines, and facilitating mergers within the charity sector.

Lauren offers her clients comprehensive legal and strategic counsel on a host of issues, including resolving conflicts among members and directors, conducting internal audits, clarifying the fiduciary responsibilities of board members, managing joint ventures and the liabilities of directors and officers, and navigating policy, governance, fundraising, charitable donations, compliance with regulations, and risk management. Her clientele spans multiple sectors, such as healthcare, religious institutions, educational organizations, recreational, community, and social services, as well as industry associations.

Before embarking on her legal career, Lauren earned a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University and spent four years teaching at elementary and secondary levels, both in Canada and at an international institution in Stockholm, Sweden.

Lauren is also deeply engaged in community service, volunteering with organizations like Lawyers Feed the Hungry, the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund, and the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC). In early 2021, she enhanced her commitment to public service by joining the board of Hand Up Toronto, a charity combating food insecurity in the Greater Toronto Area.
