Vanshika Dhawan

In 2023, Vanshika joined the team at Jellinek Ellis Gluckstein, bringing with her a robust background in championing the causes of those who have suffered from sexual and gender-based violence. Before this pivotal move, she gained valuable experience in a Toronto-based litigation boutique where her focus was squarely on supporting individuals through sexual abuse and assault cases. Vanshika's commitment to her clients extends beyond representation; she is deeply invested in ensuring survivors grasp and maneuver through the legal intricacies with greater ease.

Her academic journey, which commenced at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, is notable for its depth and relevance to her current practice. Vanshika delved into the neurobiology of trauma during her undergraduate studies, followed by an exploration of sexual assault narratives within Canada's criminal justice system for her master's degree. This academic exploration has greatly enriched her understanding and advocacy in her legal practice.

While pursuing her law degree, Vanshika didn't shy away from getting hands-on experience. She lent her skills and time to the Advocates for Injured Workers, providing much-needed legal support to those in dire situations. Her expertise also benefitted the David Asper Centre, where she contributed to initiatives focused on constitutional rights.

Apart from her legal endeavors, Vanshika holds a position on the Board of Management for the 519, a Toronto City Agency dedicated to serving the 2SLGBTQ+ community, further underscoring her commitment to advocacy and support for marginalized groups. Beyond the courtroom and advocacy work, she finds solace and inspiration in writing, immersing herself in fiction novels, enjoying theatre productions, and spending time by the ocean.

Vanshika's legal acumen is underpinned by an impressive array of qualifications, including a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) from the University of Western Ontario, a Master's in Professional Communications from Toronto Metropolitan University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. Her professional journey has seen her called to the Ontario Bar in 2023, and her contributions have been recognized through memberships in the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, The Advocate's Society, the Toronto Lawyer's Association, and the Group of Racialized (Ontario) Women Lawyers (GROWL).

Vanshika's approach to law and advocacy is holistic, informed by her extensive education, her passionate involvement in community support, and her dedication to the rights and recovery of survivors of sexual abuse.
