Tara Hunt

Tara Hunt, a distinguished partner in the business law group at Goodmans, is well-versed in guiding both public and private companies through complex transactions. Her expertise is notably sharp in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, private equity, along with the nuances of continuous disclosure, corporate governance, and the broader spectrums of corporate and securities law.

During her tenure at the University of Toronto's law school, Tara emerged as a leader, taking on roles such as Co-President of the Business Law Society and senior editor for the Faculty of Law Review, highlighting her early dedication to the legal field.

Her journey with Goodmans began as a summer student in 2014, transitioning into an associate role by 2017. Demonstrating her commitment to community and firm culture, Tara co-chaired the Goodmans United Way Campaign in both 2018 and 2019.

Tara's talent has not gone unnoticed in the legal community. In her practice, Tara has led significant transactions, including advising Larry Tanenbaum on the substantial sale involving Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. and guiding Tricon Residential Inc. through its NYSE initial public offering and a series of strategic financing and acquisition moves. Her work with BSR Real Estate Investment Trust and various follow-on offerings further cements her reputation in capital markets and REITs.

Her involvement extends to advising McCain Capital Inc. and Chair-man Mills Corp. on acquisition portfolios, supporting U.S. private equity firms in Canadian acquisitions, and advising on critical corporate strategy and governance matters for Fairfax Africa Holdings Corporation and Detour Gold Corporation.

Tara's academic credentials are impressive, holding a J.D. from the University of Toronto and a B.Comm. from McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management, both achieved with distinction.
