David Sischy

He’s got a knack for cutting through the noise in these complex disputes, whether he's standing up for his clients in court or working behind the scenes to negotiate a favorable settlement. David’s got experience on both sides of the fence, serving as both class counsel and defense counsel in class actions, with a particular focus on securities cases.

David's expertise isn’t just limited to class actions. He’s also heavily involved in defending clients against securities regulatory matters. He represents everyone from individual registrants to investment dealers, helping them navigate the rough waters of enforcement proceedings and quasi-criminal prosecutions. He's frequently in front of the Ontario Securities Commission, the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC), and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA). David’s been known to go toe-to-toe with regulators, bringing his extensive knowledge of the securities world into play to defend his clients.

You’ll often find David in the courtrooms of Ontario and Alberta, having represented clients at trial and pre-trial motions before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, including on the Commercial List. He's also taken cases to the Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. Whether it’s arguing motions, handling appeals, or appearing in trials, David is committed to delivering strong advocacy for his clients, always striving to get the best possible outcome, whether that's through a savvy negotiation or a hard-fought court battle.

David’s legal journey started at Osgoode Hall Law School, where he graduated in 2008. After getting called to the Ontario Bar in 2009, he cut his teeth at a big Bay Street firm, working his way up from a summer student to an articling position, soaking up experience in a wide range of areas. Since then, he’s made a name for himself at Groia & Company, where he’s been a principal for over 15 years.

With a law degree from Osgoode Hall and years of experience under his belt, David’s not just about lawyering up—he’s about finding the right strategy that fits each client’s unique situation. Sometimes that means going all-in on a courtroom fight; other times, it’s about finding the best possible deal without stepping foot inside a courthouse.
