Katelyn Leonard plays a crucial role as an associate at Lenczner Slaght, handling a diverse array of legal challenges. Her expertise encompasses complex commercial disputes, class actions, administrative law, appeals, and litigation related to competition, intellectual property, and securities.

Before her tenure at Lenczner Slaght, Katelyn honed her skills at a major national firm, engaging in both civil and regulatory cases with a focus on competition law, foreign investment, and intellectual property disputes. Her experience also includes working on appeals to the Supreme Court of Canada and interventions concerning competition law and copyright.

Katelyn’s legal education was pursued at Western University, where she was actively involved in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, served as a research assistant in international criminal law, co-led the advocacy committee, and provided legal counsel to small enterprises through the Western Business Law Clinic. Her commitment to international law extended to an internship with Global Affairs Canada at Canada’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Before law school, Katelyn contributed significantly to the Ontario Public Service and the Ministry of the Attorney General, where she was instrumental in crafting strategies for pivotal justice system reforms, notably in the realm of bail court improvements.

Katelyn’s dedication to legal service includes pro bono work through Pro Bono Ontario and leadership roles within the University of Toronto Woodsworth College Alumni Association and the Woodsworth College Council, alongside mentoring law students and aspirants.

Her practice areas cover a broad spectrum including appeals, class actions, commercial litigation, competition and antitrust, professional liability and regulation, public law, and securities litigation. Katelyn was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2020, following her JD from Western University in 2019 and a BA from the University of Toronto in 2011.
