Demetrios Yiokaris

Demetrios Yiokaris, serving as the practice coordinator for Koskie Minsky’s Litigation department, brings a wealth of knowledge and an extensive background in civil litigation, pension and benefits, along with specialized expertise in appellate court practice, commercial litigation, professional negligence, insurance litigation, and regulatory proceedings. Since being called to the Ontario Bar in 2002, Demetrios has become a prominent figure in legal circles, recognized for his commitment to representing a diverse clientele that includes labor unions, pensioners, and employees, especially in the realms of bankruptcy and restructuring.

Demetrios's legal prowess is evidenced by his significant motion and trial experience across various courts and tribunals, contributing to more than 130 reported decisions. His advocacy has spanned the Supreme Court of Canada, numerous provincial courts, appellate courts, and major private arbitrations, showcasing his versatile legal skills.

Before his current role, Demetrios enriched his career with experiences that include acting as counsel for the Home Construction Regulatory Authority and engaging in pivotal cases that have shaped pension and benefits litigation in Canada. His international and domestic expertise is further highlighted by his role in significant matters such as the Indalex Limited case before the Supreme Court of Canada and his advisory work in the restructuring of the auto sector, establishing Employee Life Health Trusts.

With an education that spans a certificate in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford and an LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario, Demetrios's academic foundation complements his practical experiences. His ability to speak multiple languages, including Greek and basic French and Cantonese, adds to his diverse capabilities in serving a broad client base.
