Ana Simões

Ana's expertise in insurance litigation spans a wide array of areas including claims related to property, casualty, motor vehicles, personal injury, and construction, alongside professional liability matters concerning architects, engineers, appraisers, and medical paraprofessionals. Additionally, she represents both Roman Catholic and Protestant churches in various legal capacities.

Her legal prowess has been demonstrated across a spectrum of judicial and quasi-judicial bodies, including engagements with the Superior Court of Justice, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Landlord and Tenant Board, showcasing her versatility and depth of experience in legal proceedings.

Ana's journey with Miller Thomson began with her roles as a summer student and articled clerk, culminating in her becoming an Associate after her admission to the Ontario Bar in June 2012.

Prior to her legal education, Ana devoted two decades to working as a legal assistant, during which she acquired substantial experience in civil litigation, insurance, and corporate finance. Her commitment to furthering her legal expertise was evidenced by her acquisition of a law clerk diploma, specializing in real estate and litigation, from the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario.

Ana's tenure at the University of Ottawa was marked by active participation in various facets of campus life, including her work with the university’s Legal Clinic, involvement with the Sopinka Cup Moot Competition, mentorship of first-year students, and engagement with educational initiatives aimed at high school students through LEAF’s “No Means No” program.

She also played pivotal roles in the establishment of the Portuguese Canadian Law Students’ Association and served as an executive member of the Mature Students in Law Society, highlighting her leadership and community involvement within the legal academic sphere.

Ana has contributed significantly to legal scholarship and thought leadership through her publications on settlement offers, lessons for architects, and insights into insurer’s disclosure and production, among other topics, in various legal newsletters and communiqués.

Her professional affiliations with the Canadian Bar Association, Law Society of Ontario, and the Portuguese Canadian Lawyers’ Association further underscore her commitment to the legal profession. Ana is fluent in both English and Portuguese, enabling her to serve a diverse client base.

Admitted to the Bar in Ontario in 2012, following her graduation from the University of Ottawa with a J.D. in 2011, Ana’s comprehensive background and proactive involvement in the legal community establish her as a dedicated and proficient advocate in the field of insurance litigation.
