Martin Brandsma

Martin Brandsma serves as counsel at Lenczner Slaght, bringing a wealth of expertise in the realm of intellectual property litigation. His areas of focus span patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and industrial designs. Martin has successfully represented a diverse clientele across various industries, including biotechnology, life sciences, consumer goods, telecommunications, sound recording, and collective rights management. A significant part of his practice is dedicated to pharmaceutical patent litigation under Canada’s Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, where he stands for leading global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in proceedings before both the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Before his tenure at Lenczner Slaght, Martin honed his skills in the intellectual property litigation departments of top Canadian law firms.

Martin embarked on his legal career after achieving a M.Sc. in Molecular Biology/Genetics from Western University. His research efforts were focused on developing, producing, and refining innovative recombinant therapeutic biologics. He brings this scientific expertise to his legal practice, providing a unique perspective on intellectual property issues.

His professional qualifications include being called to the Ontario bar in 2013, following his JD from the University of Ottawa in 2012, and his Master’s degree in Molecular Biology/Genetics from Western University.
