Gregory Sheppard

Greg's expertise spans a broad spectrum of civil and commercial litigation, showcasing his proficiency in handling multifaceted tort and contract disputes, constitutional dilemmas, media law intricacies, and regulatory proceedings, alongside his adeptness in alternative dispute resolution. His legal acumen has been instrumental in various courts, reaching up to the Supreme Court of Canada.

His journey in law initiated with a summer stint at Blakes in 2017, followed by his articling period there in the 2019/2020 cycle. Greg's legal education was enriched by a clerkship at the Quebec Court of Appeal, providing him with invaluable insights into appellate law.

One of Greg's notable achievements includes his pivotal role in advocating for Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd. and Kevin Donovan at the Supreme Court of Canada. This landmark case set a new precedent on the balance between openness and privacy concerning the unsealing of the estate files of Barry and Honey Sherman, marking a significant victory for public access to information.

As a dedicated member of the legal community, Greg contributes to the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations and The Advocates' Society. He extends his commitment to justice by volunteering with Pro Bono Law Ontario's Duty Counsel Project.

Greg has also contributed to legal scholarship, co-authoring articles on vital issues such as workplace privacy and the application of the Charter, the nuances of follow-form insurance policies, and the Supreme Court of Canada's stance on limitation periods and discoverability. These publications underscore his comprehensive understanding of legal principles and his ability to navigate complex legal challenges.

Greg was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2020 after graduating as a Silver Medalist from McGill University with a JD and BCL in 2019, complemented by a BA (Hon.) from the University of Toronto in 2014. His practice areas include Commercial Litigation, Investment Treaty Arbitration, and Litigation & Dispute Resolution, where he continues to make significant contributions to the field.
