After being admitted to the Ontario Bar, Tracey embarked on her legal journey in Toronto, focusing on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, initially as an associate before rising to partner status at a leading law firm. Her tenure included a pivotal secondment to the Ontario Securities Commission during 1985-1986, where she contributed her skills as a solicitor in the Corporate Finance Branch and as investigation counsel in the Enforcement Branch. Tracey's career took an international turn from 1992 to 2000, where she practiced in Europe, holding positions in Budapest, Hungary, and London, UK, with a large international law firm, and later, as a professional support lawyer at Clifford Chance in London. There, she was instrumental in knowledge management and spearheaded training programs.
Tracey's academic foundation was laid with an LL.B. from the University of Manitoba in 1979. Her professional credentials are complemented by her qualifications as a solicitor in England & Wales in 1995. Tracey's commitment to the legal profession is evidenced by her active participation in the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Securities Commission's Securities Advisory Committee, among other professional groups. She has also contributed as an associate editor for the Business Law Reports in Canada and served as a former editor for O’Brien’s Encyclopedia of Forms.

Her works include discussions on the new “access equals delivery” regime for prospectuses and the 2024 proxy season updates, along with proposals for permanent relief from shelf distribution requirements.
