Alfred Macchione

Alfred A. Macchione, a distinguished member of the Electrical and Computer Technology team at Bereskin & Parr, brings nearly four decades of rich experience to the table. His academic journey boasts a master’s degree in engineering and a law degree from McGill University, where he was honored as an Elizabeth Torrance Gold Medallist.

Throughout his illustrious career, Alfred has mastered the intricacies of managing the full spectrum of intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and designs. His prowess extends to the strategic licensing and transactional aspects of IP, guiding corporate acquisitions, mergers, and financings with a seasoned hand.

Before joining Bereskin & Parr, Alfred contributed his skills as an equity partner in a national corporate law firm’s intellectual property group and served as an IP attorney for a leading multi-national technology company. There, he specialized in the nuanced fields of computer hardware and software, as well as electronics manufacturing, skillfully handling the drafting, preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent and trademark applications.

Alfred’s leadership roles are notable, having served as the President of the Canadian National Group of AIPPI and currently leading as the Chair of the international Standing Committee on IT and Internet for the same organization.

His contributions to the field of intellectual property have not gone unnoticed, with recognition from prestigious entities such as Chambers Canada, Chambers Global, and IAM Patent 100, among others. His expertise has earned him a spot in the “Hall of Fame” within several IP rankings, including the Legal 500.

Alfred’s educational credentials are impressive, with a Bachelor of Civil Law with First Class Honours and both a Master and Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgy from McGill University. His professional qualifications include admissions to the Ontario and Québec Bars, registrations as a Canadian Patent and Trademark Agent, and membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
