Candace Pallone

Admitted to the Ontario bar in 1994, Candace M. Pallone stands out as a seasoned counsel in the Financial Services group, with a sharp focus on the intricate world of derivatives. Her expertise spans structured products, securitizations, covered bonds transactions, and the wide-ranging field of derivatives transactions and regulation.

Candace’s proficiency covers the comprehensive landscape of OTC derivative transactions, embracing regulation, central clearing, negotiation, and the securing of OTC derivatives, alongside securities lending and repo transactions across all asset classes including credit, fixed income, interest rate, commodity, foreign exchange, and equity. Her notable work includes significant involvement on behalf of the Canadian Market Infrastructure Committee regarding OTC derivatives regulation in Canada, supporting Canadian bank issuers in swap-related aspects of covered bond transactions, and advising a clearing corporation on amending its rules to include repo transaction clearing.

Before her tenure at McCarthy Tétrault starting in 2006, Candace brought her expertise to Royal Bank of Canada’s Capital Markets Transactions Services Group as senior counsel, offering legal support to trading desks and operations and risk management groups for nearly a decade.

Renowned for her insights into OTC derivatives, Candace is a sought-after speaker at various conferences and educational courses. Her academic background includes a BA in Accounting and an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School. Beyond her legal prowess, Candace is a retired Chartered Accountant, having worked with Deloitte and Touche from 1984 to 1989.
