Laura Alford

Laura Alford, currently serving as an Associate within the Real Property and Planning Group in Toronto, has carved a notable path in the realm of commercial real estate law. Her journey into law began at McGill University, where she not only pursued her B.C.L./LL.B but also immersed herself deeply in the academic community. As the Executive Coordinating Editor for the McGill Law Journal and a diligent research assistant to Professor Lionel D. Smith, Laura demonstrated early on her commitment to legal scholarship.

Her academic contributions didn't stop there; Laura actively engaged with the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, enhancing her understanding and contributing to the discourse on private and comparative legal matters. Moreover, her passion for niche legal areas led her to become a founding member of the Food Law Society at McGill, showcasing her willingness to explore and pave the way in emerging legal fields.

Before law, Laura had already laid a strong foundation with a B.A. (Hons.) in English and French from the University of Saskatchewan, highlighting her proficiency in languages and her diverse academic interests.

Her transition from academia to professional practice was marked by her joining McCarthy Tétrault in 2018 as a student, soon after her graduation in 2019. The following year, Laura's legal acumen was formally recognized when she was called to the Ontario bar, a testament to her hard work and dedication to the field. Her legal journey continued to flourish as she expanded her practice across borders, gaining admission to the New York bar in 2021.

As a member of both the Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Bar Association, and the Ontario Bar Association, Laura has solidified her standing within the legal community. Her work now focuses on navigating the complexities of commercial real estate, where her academic background and practical experiences converge to offer insightful and strategic legal solutions.
