Matthew Schuman

Matt Schuman, a key partner in the Toronto-based Municipal Law Group, specializes in municipal law and land use planning. His expertise spans the entire spectrum of land use planning from securing approvals to navigating the complexities of appeals. Schuman is known for his adept counsel to both elected and appointed officials within local governments, ensuring their decisions are made with a keen eye on transparency and accountability. He routinely represents clients in proceedings before key judicial and quasi-judicial bodies such as the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, the Toronto Local Appeal Body, and the Divisional Court.

Beyond his practice, Schuman has shared his knowledge as a planning law instructor at the University of Toronto’s Master’s in Planning Program and has contributed his insights at conferences such as the Council on Government Ethics Laws (COGEL). His scholarly contributions have been featured in prestigious publications like the Osgoode Hall Law Journal and the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice.
