Michael Comartin

Michael Comartin, a key partner at Ogletree Deakins' Toronto branch, brings a comprehensive suite of expertise to the table, covering employment and labour law, privacy issues, wage disputes, human rights, accessibility concerns, and matters relating to employee benefits and executive compensation. His proficiency extends to handling class actions, appellate litigation, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, and a broad spectrum of general litigation, making him a versatile advocate for employers in judicial review processes.

His legal acumen has seen him represent clients across a wide array of judicial and quasi-judicial bodies, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario, Divisional Court, Superior Court of Justice, Federal Court of Appeal, Federal Court, Ontario Labour Relations Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and before numerous labour arbitrators. Michael’s early career included a clerkship at the Divisional Court and involvement in Divisional Court as duty counsel through Pro Bono Law Ontario's amicus project, showcasing his commitment to providing access to justice.

Michael's academic achievements are noteworthy; he was honored with the Medal in Law for achieving the highest standing in his graduating class. Notably, he is the singular graduate from Queen’s University to have been awarded three Dean’s Gold Scholar awards, an accolade recognizing his first-place standing in every year of the JD program.

During his time at Queen’s University, Michael dedicated himself as a research assistant in the domain of labour and employment law, contributing significantly to the Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace.
