Shefali Tanna

Shefali Tanna has distinguished herself as a proficient associate within the Immigration Group in Toronto, where she skillfully navigates the complexities of both Canadian and American immigration law. Her commitment to immigration law was further evidenced by her volunteer work with a prominent national immigration legal service provider in the U.S., offering direct assistance to foreign nationals and their families. This period saw her vigorously defend her clients’ interests across various legal bodies, including the Executive Office for Immigration Review and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Shefali's academic foundation is robust, with a BA in Political Science from Western University, a Bachelor of Laws from the City Law School at the University of London, and a Master of Laws in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University Law Center, where she graduated with distinction. Her academic prowess was recognized early on, earning her a spot on the Dean’s List.

Her scholarly pursuits also led her to engage in the 6th Annual International Commercial Arbitration Moot at the American University, Washington College of Law, where she earned an honorable mention. Furthermore, Shefali's insights into international commercial arbitration were showcased during a panel at the 2018 Annual Conference of the International Law Association.

After completing her articles with McCarthy Tétrault, Shefali was called to the Ontario Bar in 2020, joining the ranks of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association. Her legal acumen is also recognized in the United States, where she was admitted to the New York Bar in 2018 and is a member of the New York Bar Association.
