Jim's academic credentials are impressive, holding a JD from the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law. Here, he was distinguished by several awards, including the WeirFoulds LLP Writing Prize in Intellectual Property and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s national writing prize, showcasing his exceptional legal writing and research skills. He was also a victor in numerous advocacy competitions. Beyond academics, Jim contributed his skills as a case manager at Western's Business Law Clinic.

Before embarking on his law career, Jim pursued mechanical engineering and management at McMaster University, where he graduated summa cum laude. His final project focused on reducing aero-acoustic noise for Bombardier private jets, illustrating his technical acumen.

Jim's practice areas include commercial litigation, competition and antitrust, defamation and media, employment law, injunctions, and intellectual property. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2018 after completing his JD at the University of Western Ontario in 2017 and his BEng Mgt in Thermofluids and Energy Systems at McMaster University in 2014.
