At the helm of the Real Estate Group in the Toronto office and sharing leadership of the National Real Estate Group, Mario Paura stands as a central figure, his expertise also extending to the Mergers & Acquisitions and Retail Groups, with a seat on the firm’s Management Committee. Mario brings over a quarter-century of rich experience in commercial real estate, finance, M&A, and commercial leasing, delivering comprehensive legal solutions.

His practice encompasses the full spectrum of real estate transactions, including the buying, selling, financing, and development of various property types, from retail and commercial spaces to multi-residential, hospitality, and entertainment properties, as well as REITs.

In the realm of finance, Mario navigates both domestic and international financings for borrowers and lenders alike, offering insights into secured and unsecured lending. His acumen in M&A sees him guiding clients through complex real estate investments across North America, offering tailored advice on transactions that include share and asset purchases, partnerships, and joint ventures, helping clients to optimize value and operational efficiency.

Mario’s legal prowess is repeatedly acknowledged in prestigious legal directories such as Chambers, Best Lawyers, and Lexpert, highlighting his standing in the legal community.

His professional engagement extends beyond practice, with active participation in key real estate associations and his status as a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA), where he contributes to the Board of Regents, serves as Provincial Chair for Ontario, and plays a role in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Mario also connects with the global legal community as the North American Regional Forum Liaison Officer for the IBA’s Real Estate Committee and holds memberships in the Real Property Sections of both the CBA and ABA, among other prominent organizations.

Dedicated to community and professional development, Mario is Vice-chair of the Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Board and Co-Chair of its capital campaign cabinet. He also contributes to the educational sector as a Director of the CIBPA Education Foundation and has held leadership roles within the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association (CIBPA).
