Darin Renton

Darin Renton serves as a partner at Stikeman Elliott, anchoring his legal prowess in the Financial Products & Services and Energy – Oil & Gas Groups. His expertise encompasses the inception, architecture, and marketing of a wide array of investment funds, touching upon private equity, mortgage, real estate, and hedge funds, along with mutual funds, ETFs, and flow-through limited partnerships. Darin has devised innovative fund structures that channel investments into diverse fields including bitcoin, cryptocurrency, film, and litigation. His proficiency extends to guiding private equity ventures, orchestrating mergers and acquisitions, managing public offerings, and overseeing private placements, including marketing offshore funds to institutional investors. He offers counsel to fund managers and investment dealers regarding securities registration, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance for strategic investors in public companies.

As a professional, Darin aligns with the Ontario Bar Association and is actively involved with the American Bar Association and The Alternative Investment Management Association Limited (AIMA), where he contributes as Legal Counsel to AIMA Canada. Darin’s recent endeavors include leading the GMP Securities L.P. as they introduced one of Canada's pioneering cryptocurrency funds and advising Greybrook Realty Partners across various private placements. He also acted as Canadian counsel during the merger of Aberdeen Asset Management PLC with Standard Life plc.
