David Byers

David Byers, serving as senior counsel and previously as the Co-Chair of the National Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, brings a wealth of expertise in handling complex commercial litigation. His proficiency spans a range of fields including product liability, securities, insolvency, and insurance, along with both domestic and international arbitration.

David's litigation skills have been showcased across various levels of the judicial system in Ontario, both at trial and appellate stages. His legal practice encompasses a wide array of sectors, from manufacturing and technology to pharmaceuticals, financial services, and the tobacco industry. Notably, he has represented both lenders and debtors in numerous high-profile court-supervised restructurings.

In terms of professional affiliations, David is actively involved with several esteemed legal organizations. He is a member of the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers’ Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Insolvency Institute of Canada, and the Litigation Counsel of America. Additionally, he has played a significant role as a member and former Director of The Advocates’ Society.

David's areas of expertise are notably diverse, covering commercial litigation, class actions, litigation and dispute resolution, restructuring and insolvency, and product liability.

His academic credentials include an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School, completed in 1981, and an Honours B.A. from the University of Western Ontario, earned in 1978. David was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1983, marking the commencement of his distinguished legal career.
