Geoffrey Farr

Geoff's arrival at Dickinson Wright's Toronto branch as a partner marks a notable addition, with his vast experience spanning over a quarter-century in corporate and securities law. His expertise primarily lies in guiding public companies through the intricacies of financing, corporate transactions, and adhering to the legalities of public company status. Geoff's proficiency extends to a wide array of services, including managing equity and debt financings, ensuring corporate governance, overseeing continuous disclosure filings, and navigating compliance with securities and corporate law. His experience covers stock exchange listings, reverse takeovers, interactions with stock exchanges and securities commissions, corporate reorganizations, take-over bids, and advising independent committees.

Before his tenure at Dickinson Wright, Geoff dedicated eight years as General Counsel for a gold mining corporation listed on both the Toronto and New York stock exchanges. This role afforded him deep insights into compliance, corporate governance, and internal management, where he also served as Corporate Secretary, offering counsel to both the board and management teams.

Geoff's academic journey began at Queen’s University, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce in 1989, followed by a Law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1992. His professional credentials were solidified with his bar admission in Ontario in 1994. Geoff's practice areas are diverse, encompassing securities, corporate governance, finance, general corporate matters, mergers & acquisitions, and the sectors of mining, oil, and gas.

In addition to his legal practice, Geoff has co-authored several publications, contributing to the legal community's understanding of securities laws. These include client alerts and blog posts for Dickinson Wright, focusing on significant developments such as the "Access Equals Delivery Model" for reporting issuer prospectuses, the proposed shelf prospectus regime, amendments to Canadian Securities Exchange policies, and changes to the TSX rules regarding the pricing of public offerings. Through these writings, Geoff has demonstrated his commitment to keeping both colleagues and clients informed about the evolving landscape of securities law.
