Irena Ninkovic

Irena Ninkovic serves as an associate within the Corporate Group, concentrating her legal practice on securities, private equity, investment funds, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and corporate governance.

As an active member of the Law Society of Ontario, Irena brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role.

Before her tenure in Ontario, Irena was part of the Serbian Bar Association, focusing on corporate and commercial law in Serbia. She played a key role in the privatization processes of major financial, insurance, and pharmaceutical entities in the Balkans and collaborated with international bodies like the World Bank and USAID on initiatives aimed at reforming and modernizing Serbian corporate laws. Additionally, Irena contributed as an investigator for defense teams at the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, offering her expertise in high-profile cases.

Irena is proficient in Serbian, Bosnian, and Croatian, enhancing her ability to serve a diverse clientele.

Her areas of specialization include Securities, Private Equity, Investment Funds & Asset Management, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Corporate Governance, indicating her broad expertise in corporate law.

Irena's education is extensive, with a J.D. with distinction from Western University and an L.L.B. from the University of Belgrade. Her admission to the Ontario bar in 2020 marked a significant milestone in her legal career.

Recently, Irena played an instrumental role in the launch of the C$7B Private Equity Pool Fund by the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO) and supported AGF Management Limited in its strategic acquisition of a majority stake in Kensington Capital Partners Limited.

She has co-authored publications on alternative investment funds, contributing to the International Comparative Legal Guides in August 2023 and providing insight into the landscape for 2023. Additionally, Irena discussed the groundbreaking admission of Coinsquare Capital Markets Ltd. to IIROC membership, marking it as the first crypto trading platform to become a registered investment dealer in Canada, showcasing her engagement with evolving legal and financial frameworks.
