Jeffrey Hershenfield

Jeff Hershenfield leads as a partner and the co-director of the Capital Markets and Public Mergers & Acquisitions Group. His expertise spans across several key areas including capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and securities, in addition to private equity, corporate governance, and general corporate law.

Jeff has represented a wide array of clients, from issuers and sponsors to securities dealers in corporate finance endeavors that include initial public offerings and equity as well as debt financings, both public and private. His proficiency extends to serving public and private enterprises, private equity entities, REITs, financial bodies, fund managers, and boards of directors across numerous M&A ventures, both domestically and internationally. Jeff is particularly adept at advising on cross-border securities offerings and M&A transactions, ensuring compliance with corporate governance and securities regulations.

His involvement with the firm goes beyond his legal practice; he participates in the Students Committee, has co-chaired the United Way Committee, and previously contributed to the Law Clerk Committee.

Professionally, Jeff holds a seat on the Securities Advisory Committee to the Ontario Securities Commission, providing invaluable policy guidance. He is an active member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.

Jeff's educational background is diverse and rich, holding a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, an M.B.A. from York University's Schulich School of Business, and an Honours B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario. His legal practice in Ontario commenced in 2008 after a productive secondment with an international bank focused on capital markets transactions and securities regulation.

Jeff's remarkable work includes guiding Teck Resources Limited through a significant divestiture, assisting GFL Environmental Inc. with its substantial public offering, and advising CT Real Estate Investment Trust on major financing deals. His professional excellence has been acknowledged by Chambers Canada, IFLR1000, and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, highlighting his standing in REITs, capital markets, and corporate law sectors.
