Jennifer Byun

Jennifer Byun serves as counsel within the Corporate, Technology, and Privacy & Data Protection Groups, where her legal expertise spans commercial, technology, privacy, and governance issues.

Her professional responsibilities involve guiding clients through the intricacies of commercial contracts, covering areas like complex business process outsourcing, joint ventures, and various sales and procurement activities. Jennifer excels in providing contractual management support, streamlining the day-to-day legal operations of her clients. Her advisory role extends to transactions involving technology-based companies, handling both acquisitions and divestitures. Additionally, Jennifer aids private companies in governance, assisting in the creation and review of policies, board committee charters, and developing risk management frameworks for enhanced risk oversight.

Collaborating with the Knowledge Management Group, Jennifer has played a pivotal role in creating and improving tools essential for the corporate services practice. Her efforts have been instrumental in standardizing workflows, optimizing in-house legal support, and implementing innovative legal technologies to elevate the firm's service delivery.

Jennifer actively participates in various firm committees, including the Students Committee, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Lawyer Pluralism Committee, and Law Clerks Committee, showcasing her commitment to fostering an inclusive and dynamic workplace. She is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario.

Jennifer's legal journey commenced at Stikeman Elliott, focusing on technology, private M&A, and banking. She later transitioned to a senior corporate in-house counsel role at a global mining company, enhancing her corporate legal expertise. Jennifer returned to Stikeman Elliott as their Director, Corporate Services Practice & Innovation, before resuming her legal practice with a focus on technology, commercial contracts, privacy, and governance.

Her educational background includes an LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario (2006) and a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of British Columbia (2002). Jennifer was admitted to the Bar in Ontario in 2007, marking the start of her distinguished legal career.
