Michael Burkett

Michael Burkett stands as a key partner within the Mergers & Acquisitions Group, offering his expertise to a wide array of clients. His work primarily involves guiding both public and private entities, as well as private equity investors through intricate mergers and acquisitions, both within domestic borders and internationally. Furthermore, Michael plays a pivotal role in facilitating divestitures, privatization efforts, and addressing governance and compliance matters for public companies. His assistance extends to corporate finance, securities, and general corporate commercial issues, benefiting clients from Canada, the U.S., and other international landscapes. Michael is adept at managing initial and secondary public offerings, bought deal transactions, and private placements, servicing sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, e-commerce, mining, food and beverage, financial services, and agribusiness.

Beyond his professional practice, Michael contributes to the firm's internal operations as a member of the Associates Committee and the Diversity Committee.

As a committed member of the legal community, Michael holds memberships with the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Ontario, and the American Bar Association. His dedication to education is evident from his lectures on corporate law at York University’s Schulich Business School and his role as Adjunct Professor of Advanced Corporate Law at Western University Law School.

His academic credentials include an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School, obtained in 2000, and an Honours B.A. from Michigan State University, achieved in 1994. Michael was formally admitted to the Ontario Bar, marking the commencement of his distinguished legal career in the province.
