Mike Devereux

Mike Devereux, serving as a partner within both the Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions Groups, also contributes to the Associates Committee at the Toronto office. He specializes in securities and corporate law, focusing on a spectrum of activities including both public and private mergers and acquisitions, navigating shareholder activism, handling private equity deals, crafting strategic initiatives like joint ventures, partnerships, and major investments, as well as managing corporate finance operations.

Mike’s expertise extends to advising a diverse array of stakeholders, from issuers and boards of directors to special committees, management teams, private equity entities, hedge funds, and financial advisors across numerous M&A scenarios. Furthermore, he lends his knowledge to issuers and securities dealers engaged in a variety of corporate finance ventures. Regularly, Mike provides guidance on corporate governance, ensures compliance with securities law, and offers strategic advice on shareholder activism and take-over strategies.

In terms of professional affiliations, Mike is linked with the Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Bar Association, underscoring his commitment to the legal profession.

His experience is bolstered by a stint in Stikeman Elliott’s Sydney office during a secondment, where he delivered advice on international corporate finance and M&A projects.

Mike’s areas of proficiency are broad, covering mergers and acquisitions, private equity, capital markets, corporate governance, and initial public offerings.

His academic credentials are robust, with an LL.B., cum laude, from the University of Ottawa achieved in 2007, and a B.A. in Economics and Business Studies, with distinction, from Concordia University obtained in 2004. His admission to the Ontario Bar in 2008 marked the start of his distinguished legal career.
