Peter Flynn

Peter Flynn, a principal figure in the Competition & Foreign Investment Group, excels in analyzing transactions under the Competition Act and the Investment Canada Act, especially in securing necessary regulatory clearances for international projects.

Peter's counsel spans the entire spectrum of competition law under the Competition Act, focusing on intricate merger examinations, formation of joint ventures and strategic alliances, both criminal and civil inquiries, compliance reviews, and cases of deceptive marketing practices. He has distinguished himself in securing approvals across several sectors, including telecommunications, software, media, fintech, consumer goods, life sciences, mining, and oil and gas.

In matters related to the Investment Canada Act, Peter's forte lies in acquiring economic and cultural net benefit approvals and delivering pivotal advice to international investors facing national security examinations. His proficiency extends to collaborating with government and public relations consultants to facilitate sanction for prominent deals.

Peter's professional engagements include leadership roles such as Chairing the Foreign Investment Review Committee of the Canadian Bar Association's Competition Law and Foreign Investment Review Section, along with memberships in the American Bar Association Antitrust Law Section and the Law Society of Ontario.

Before embarking on his legal career, Peter's experiences were rooted in politics, including roles as a Member’s Assistant in Parliament and a Research Assistant to Professor Jacob Ziegel. His insight into competition and foreign investment law is further deepened by a master’s degree in economics from the University of Toronto.

His academic background encompasses a J.D. and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Toronto, alongside an Honours B.Soc.Sc. from the University of Ottawa. Peter was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2015.

Peter's noteworthy transactions include advising Oxford Properties Group Inc. on its divestiture and partnership with TPG regarding $1.3 billion Class-A industrial business parks in the Greater Toronto Area, guiding the Special Committee of LOGISTEC Corporation through its acquisition by Blue Wolf Capital Partners for $1.2 billion, and supporting Sagicor Financial Company Ltd. in its $375 million purchase of ivari from Wilton Re Ltd., under the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.
