Warren Ferguson

Warren Ferguson holds the position of associate within the Competition & Foreign Investment Group, specializing in reviewing transactions as dictated by the Competition Act and the Investment Canada Act. He extends his legal advice to clients on a wide array of regulatory concerns, including sanctions, anti-money laundering (AML), and anti-terrorist financing issues.

In his professional life, Warren is associated with the Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Bar Association, where he is notably the first vice-chair of the Young Lawyer’s Committee.

Warren's previous experience includes serving as the Director of Legal Affairs for the Queen’s Grad Club's Board of Directors from 2019 to 2021 while attending law school. He notably participated on the Queen’s University Law School’s moot team in the Adam F. Fanaki Competition Law Moot, earning the Runner-up Best Team - Appellant Award with his team. Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, Warren has been committed to refereeing over 1,000 minor league ice hockey games since 2009.

Warren’s academic accomplishments include earning a J.D. from Queen's University, an M.A. also from Queen's University, and an Honours B.S.Sc. from St. Francis Xavier University. His admission to the Ontario Bar occurred in 2022.

Warren's recent professional engagements include acting as Canadian counsel for HSBC Holdings plc in its significant C$13.5 billion sale of HSBC Bank Canada to the Royal Bank of Canada, assisting Better Collective A/S with its C$258 million acquisition of Playmaker Capital, and contributing to the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO) in the initiation of its C$7 billion Private Equity Pool Fund.

He has also co-authored publications, including an article on misleading online advertising consent agreements to conclude 2023, and has written on the overhaul of Canada’s FDI regime, showcasing his contributions to legal scholarship and practice.
