Heyla Vettyvel

Heyla Vettyvel contributes her skills as an associate within Gowling WLG's Toronto office, specifically in the Advocacy department. Her legal expertise is directed towards commercial litigation, addressing issues such as contract disputes, banking litigation, class actions, municipal liability, and defamation law. Vettyvel's notable contributions include her involvement in various appeals at the Ontario Court of Appeal and a significant defamation trial that delved into the realms of journalism and science.

Vettyvel's legal education was obtained from Osgoode Hall Law School, where she played a pivotal role as the criminal law division leader within the Community & Legal Aid Services Programme. Her responsibilities spanned the entire spectrum of case management, from client interviews and court appearances to strategy development, Crown pre-trial conferences, and trial preparation. Her tenure at Osgoode was also marked by active participation in mooting competitions, both as a competitor and a judge, and leadership positions within the Osgoode Tax Law Association.

Before her foray into law, Vettyvel achieved a Bachelor of Business Administration with distinction from the Schulich School of Business, where she pursued a triple specialization in accounting, responsible business, and entrepreneurship, showcasing her diverse academic interests.

Vettyvel is also known for her commitment to community service, regularly volunteering with Pro Bono Ontario's Small Claims Duty Council program, offering her legal expertise to those in need.

Her educational milestones include earning a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2017 and a Bachelor of Business Administration with distinction from the Schulich School of Business in 2014, laying a strong foundation for her promising career in law.
