Jennifer Danahy

Jennifer Danahy is a key partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, focusing her practice on environmental law. She brings a wealth of experience to her clients, providing insightful, practical legal advice on a variety of environmental issues. Jennifer is adept at navigating the environmental aspects of corporate transactions for lenders, borrowers, vendors, and purchasers, and she excels in designing and implementing Environmental Management Systems and Best Management Practices. Her work also encompasses compliance audits and offering strategic advice following their completion.

Jennifer frequently collaborates with General Counsel and Environmental Health and Safety managers, offering guidance on compliance strategies and advising boards of directors on audit outcomes. She stays ahead of the curve in environmental law, helping clients adapt to new legal developments and offering regular training on environmental due diligence.

As an experienced litigator, Jennifer represents clients before various tribunals and courts, including the Environmental Review Tribunal and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Her practice includes appealing Ministry of the Environment orders, responding to citizen group challenges, and defending against environmental prosecutions at all levels of government.

Jennifer has a robust background in environmental assessments, working with both public and private sector clients on federal and provincial projects. She advises on compliance with endangered species legislation and wetland protection, and assists clients with contaminated site management, including navigating Site Access Agreements and environmental report assessments.

Before her legal career, Jennifer worked as an environmental consultant and policy analyst, which provides her with a unique perspective on environmental law. She holds an LLB from the University of Toronto Law School and a BES from York University, graduating summa cum laude.
