Kevin Sartorio

Kevin Sartorio, a seasoned partner at Gowling WLG's Toronto office, brings a wealth of experience to the firm's intellectual property (IP) litigation practice. Since joining the firm in 2007, Kevin has built an extensive portfolio in all facets of IP contentious work, including cases involving patents, designs, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.

His courtroom prowess is notable, with Kevin having advocated in numerous trial and appellate cases across various levels, including landmark appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada. One of his most distinguished contributions was representing the Law Society in the landmark copyright decision CCH Canadian Ltd. v. Law Society of Upper Canada.

Widely recognized as a leading figure in Canada's IP law scene, Kevin has consistently received accolades from prestigious ranking services for his expertise in IP litigation.

Kevin’s practice spans several key sectors, including Retail, Leisure & Hotels, and Intellectual Property Law, where he focuses on IP Litigation & Strategy, showcasing his versatility and depth in the field.

Over the years, Kevin has been honored with numerous rankings and awards, highlighting his standing in the legal community. These include regular listings in the World Trademark Review 1000, Best Lawyers in Canada, and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, among others.

Before embarking on his legal career, Kevin pursued a solid foundation in science, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from McMaster University, followed by a law degree from the University of Victoria Law School. His dual expertise in science and law uniquely positions him to handle complex IP litigation with a deep understanding of the technical aspects involved.

Since being called to the Ontario Bar in 2000, Kevin has dedicated his career to advancing the field of IP law, contributing significantly to the development and protection of intellectual property rights in Canada and beyond.
