Shannon Uhera

Shannon Uhera is an integral part of the Intellectual Property Group at Gowling WLG's Toronto office, with her legal practice honing in on advertising and marketing law. Her expertise covers a wide spectrum of related areas such as contest development and legal review, influencer collaborations, sponsorship deals, agreements involving talent and co-promotion, social media strategies, review of advertising content, e-commerce legalities, consumer protection, and privacy laws. She provides guidance that aligns with both provincial and federal regulations to clients across various sectors, including retail, consumer goods, financial services, alcohol, automotive, and telecommunications.

Uhera is recognized for her adeptness in aligning legal advice with the practical operational needs of businesses. Her industry experience is further enriched by her secondments; in 2018, she offered her expertise to one of the globe's leading beverage companies, tackling a variety of advertising, business, and intellectual property issues. Additionally, she has contributed her skills on a part-time secondment basis to one of Gowling WLG's premier banking clients and the marketing compliance division of one of Canada's leading food and drug retailers.

Her journey with Gowling WLG began as a summer student, transitioning into an articling student role. Uhera's academic background includes a JD from the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law, where she notably excelled at the International Intellectual Property Law Clinic and participated in the Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot. Her team's written submissions secured them third place in this prestigious competition. She has also completed the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada's copyright master class.

Before her venture into law, Uhera achieved her Master of Information from the University of Toronto and holds an undergraduate degree from Western University, where she was distinguished with the gold medal for the Top Bachelor of Arts, Four Year (Major).

Her areas of specialization encompass Cyber Security & Data Protection Law, Advertising & Product Regulatory, Brand Protection, and Intellectual Property Law, showcasing her comprehensive knowledge and dedication to her field of practice.
