HOLT FOSTER is a co-leader of Sidley’s global Energy practice team. Holt’s practice focuses on private equity, venture capital, and creative financing; mergers and acquisitions; formation of and investments in private equity funds; and a variety of international transactions. He primarily represents private equity funds and their portfolio companies with buying and selling energy assets. In addition to energy transactions, Holt has experience in a broad range of industries including media and entertainment, technology, and software. Holt also has practical business and entrepreneurial experience through his founding of an international entertainment software publishing company, which subsequently was sold to a publicly traded company.

Holt has also been listed in Best Lawyers in America (Corporate Law 2013–2021). In addition, he has been named by D Magazine as one of the “Best Lawyers in Dallas” (Corporate Law: Mergers & Acquisitions 2014–2017, 2019–2023) and by the Dallas Business Journal to the “Who’s Who in Energy” in 2014. He was recognized as a “Texas Super Lawyer” (Securities & Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions 2004, 2009–2020) by Thomson Reuters, in The Legal 500 US (Energy Transactions – Oil & Gas 2020), and in Who’s Who Legal: M&A and Governance 2021.

Prior to joining Sidley, Holt was a partner and served in numerous leadership roles at another global law firm. In addition, Holt serves on a number of civic and charitable boards in the community.
