RYAN SCOFIELD advises clients on complex corporate and transactional matters, with a primary focus on mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and private equity and capital markets transactions. He also serves on the firm’s COVID-19 Task Force. Ryan represents public and private companies, including master limited partnerships, strategic public issuers, private equity sponsors, and portfolio companies in connection with acquisitions, investments, divestitures, strategic relationships, joint ventures, registered primary, secondary and follow-on offerings of public securities, and various other types of transactions. He also provides general advice to clients with respect to corporate governance, securities laws, and compliance and restructuring matters. Ryan has represented clients in a variety of industries, including energy, insurance, manufacturing, technology, and real estate.

Ryan’s range, experience, and results have earned him public recognition, including the selection by his peers to D Magazine’s “Best Lawyer Under 40” for 2020–2023, an award designed to highlight exceptional legal talent under 40 in North Texas.

In addition to his transactional practice, Ryan has provided pro bono services to clients in the local community with regard to various matters, including wills and estates, several veterans’ applications for combat-related special compensation, a commercial dispute, and adoption. Before joining Sidley, Ryan worked for the transactional practice group of an international law firm located in Dallas, and he earlier served as a judicial law clerk to Chief Justice Myron T. Steele of the Supreme Court of Delaware.

Ryan earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Duke University School of Law. While attending law school, he was a staff editor for the Duke Law Journal. He graduated, summa cum laude, with a B.A. in government and economics from the College of William and Mary, where he accepted an invitation into Phi Beta Kappa.
